Exit Review Poster

I was selected to create the poster for my graduation class’ graphic design Exit Review.

My inspiration came from an aeolipile, also known as a Hero engine, the first recorded steam engine. An aeolipile was the epitome of achieving a graphic design degree to me. From the outside it looks like a clean, simple machine, but the inside contains heat, pressure, and steam that power productivity.

I carved the original aeolipile image into linoleum to get an authentic block print look. Throughout the process I replaced certain elements of the carving for a more pertinent, balanced image. I pieced together letters from lead and wood type for the event details. I really enjoyed the process and look of this artisan style.
